Wills & Hepworth were printers in Loughborough. Between the two World Wars they (occasionally) produced a variety of large children's books. The books were large and thick. They contained a few full colour pictures but the majority were line drawings. There are a couple of examples of these very old Ladybird books here.
In 1940 they produced the first book in the size and format that is familiar to this day. These early titles, which were issued with dust jackets, are amongst the most sought after by collectors. Some of these have been re-issued over the years
